La Capilla del Hombre – Guayasamín Museum has been listed by UNESCO as a priority cultural project for humanity. It contains the largest archaeological art museum in the country with more than 8,000 pieces of colonial and contemporary art, and also houses the largest collection of Guayasamín's art, which includes works by highly skilled indigenous artists from the Quito School. There is even a collection of bloody crucifixes (although Guayasamín was agnostic, he incorporated tortured images, similar to those of Christ, into his own work).
Pululahua is an extinct but active volcano, one of only two inhabited craters in the world and the third largest with a diameter of 12 km. Every afternoon, moisture-laden clouds arrive from the coast and hide the life that exists in this caldera under a white blanket. It is the only protected area in the country that has the status of "Geobotanical Reserve," declared as such due to its geological condition and great biological diversity of both fauna and flora.
Lunch is planned at the restaurant located on the edge of the Pululahua volcano crater, the only inhabited crater in the world. The El Cráter Restaurant offers a 360-degree view of the landscape, which changes constantly depending on the time of day.
Inti ñan derives from the Quechua words Inti (sun) and Ñan (path), meaning that Intiñan translates as "Path of the Sun." At the Intiñan Museum, you can explore the history of ancient peoples, learn about their homes and ways of life, and discover sundials. You can also interactively conduct various experiments at latitude 0.
The Middle of the World City is a cultural complex that houses the Middle of the World monument. Its purpose is to highlight the exact location of the equator, from which the country takes its name, and also to highlight the 18th-century Franco-Spanish geodesic mission that determined the approximate site through which the equatorial line passes. In addition, the complex includes the Ethnographic Museum on the country's indigenous cultures, four pavilions with permanent exhibitions, a Planetarium, a miniature model of colonial Quito, craft shops, and restaurants serving typical food.
