It is known by many as the Park of the Iguanas due to the large number of these reptiles that inhabit it. It was once the Plaza de Armas of the colonial city, although over time it has taken on a new character. In the center of the park stands a beautiful statue of Simón Bolívar on horseback, brought from Italy. In addition, the city's majestic cathedral is located in one corner of the park. Enjoy your visit to Seminario Park!

Did you know that Las Peñas is Guayaquil's oldest neighborhood? Its name comes from the numerous crags and limestone rocks that existed when the Spanish settled there in the 16th century. In 1982, it was declared a cultural heritage site of Ecuador, and in 2002, the Municipality of Guayaquil began a process of restoration and regeneration. The residents of the area and the owners of the buildings are the true custodians of this historic and emblematic heritage site, which is a meeting point for those who love Guayaquil traditions. In addition, Las Peñas is located in front of the tranquil Guayas River, which makes this area even more special. Enjoy exploring this wonderful place!

4

PLACES TO VISIT

1

Historical Park

This beautiful recreational park is a living example of our cultural traditions and wildlife. You can admire a wide variety of flora and fauna and explore old urban-style houses that have been reconstructed in the park. Its 8 hectares are divided into three different areas: the Wildlife area, the Traditions area, and the Urban-Architectural area. It is the ideal place for those looking to enjoy ecological and archaeological tourism in Guayaquil! We hope you enjoy it to the fullest.

2

Wildlife Area

This magnificent area welcomes you with a wide variety of animals native to Guayaquil and the coast of Ecuador. In this wonderful space, you can see endangered species that have been rescued by programs run by the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Environment. This area covers 37.5% of the park's total hectares.
In terms of the exploratory experience, this area consists of elevated trails that stretch for 850 meters and allow visitors to interact with the environment without disturbing the animals' natural habitat. The trail includes 23 stops where you can enjoy the beautiful natural spectacle and see the animals in settings that mimic their habitat as closely as possible.

3

Traditions Area

In this area, you can enjoy a reconstruction of the fascinating rural traditions of the Ecuadorian coast. Two different environments await your visit: on one hand, La Casa San Juan, which is the main part of a 19th-century house restored and reconstructed in the park to show farm life; on the other, La Casa del Campesino, which transports us to the way of life of the laborers who worked in coastal agriculture. Don't miss the permanent exhibition of Ecuador's main agricultural products, such as coffee, tagua, and rubber, as well as the explanation of the famous banana and cocoa boom. In this same space, you can enjoy theatrical performances with a rural theme, where culture, customs, and traditions will be on full display.
