Casa del Suizo offers activities on the Napo River and adventures guided by local experts, with options to enjoy morning, afternoon, or full-day activities. Casa del Suizo's private reserve provides the opportunity to explore a primary forest and participate in unique tours, followed by the construction of a balsa wood boat for the return trip downriver. In Cosano, visitors can go hiking, observe the native village of Ahuano, and enjoy a peaceful trip downriver on a buoy. In addition, they can visit AmaZoonico, a rescue sanctuary for Amazonian animals, for three hours. This visit also offers the opportunity to experience local agriculture, learn about traditional crops and medicinal plants, and admire insects and birds.
The journey to La Casa del Suizo begins in Quito, from where it is recommended to depart in the morning for the province of Napo. The journey ends upon arrival at Punta Ahuano, a charming port town on the north bank of the Napo River, where canoes are ready to take us on a short 15-minute ride to La Casa del Suizo.
Upon arrival, we will have time to settle in and enjoy the sunset from the pool, accompanied by a refreshing welcome cocktail. From the moment we arrive at La Casa del Suizo, we will have the opportunity to make the most of the Napo River, its natural wonders, and the exciting adventures that await us. At La Casa del Suizo, we will find a variety of activities for the morning, afternoon, or even for the whole day, all guided by local experts.
Just 15 minutes upstream by boat is the private reserve of Casa del Suizo, home to a primary forest. Upon arriving at the beach, you will hike approximately 100 meters into the reserve, where you can rest in a small native cabin. Afterwards, you will continue with a tour of the forest interior. This unique experience will take you through picturesque streams, muddy paths under the natural shade of trees and native plants, where the local guide, with his impressive knowledge of the use of medicinal plants, will immerse you in the secrets of the rainforest.
After the hike, with the help of the guide, you will be able to build a typical local boat made of balsa wood, which you will use to return downstream to La Casa del Suizo in approximately half an hour. This experience lasts 4 hours and has a medium level of difficulty. We recommend wearing long-sleeved clothing, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and swimwear.
A 20-minute boat ride will take you to Cosano, a private property with a primary forest along the Arajuno River. Here, you will have the opportunity to go on hikes of varying levels of difficulty. From different points in this beautiful place, you can see the native village of Ahuano, as well as the flow of small rivers that empty into the great Napo River. During the tour, the local guide will share with you the fascinating world of the plants and animals that inhabit this jungle. After this experience, you will return to La Casa del Suizo by floating down the Arajuno River on a buoy, enjoying a peaceful and relaxing trip. This is a unique opportunity to be close to nature, perhaps even spotting an ocelot or a tapir.
On the other hand, AmaZoonico is a rescue sanctuary for Amazonian animals, run by volunteer guides who will share the fascinating, and sometimes tragic, stories of the center's residents, from caimans to macaws, who have struggled to readjust to nature after being sold on the black market. By visiting AmaZoonico, you are helping to ensure the protection of these unique animals.
This experience lasts 3 hours and has a medium level of difficulty. The entrance fee is $3.50 per person. We recommend wearing long sleeves, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a swimsuit.
During this visit, passengers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in local agriculture, learn about traditional crops and medicinal plants used by the natives since ancient times. In addition, they will be able to admire the diversity of insects and birds that inhabit the area.
