Arrival at the Lodge

After a 30-minute commercial flight to Puerto Francisco de Orellana "El Coca," our representative will transfer you by private transport to the city's main dock on the Napo River. The next step in your journey will be a two-hour trip downriver in a motorized canoe, marking the beginning of an unforgettable experience in the Amazon rainforest. After the motorized canoe ride, you will be dropped off at the main dock in La Selva, where you will have your first close encounter with the rainforest on the final leg of the journey to the lodge, in a rowboat canoe. During this part of the trip, you only need to take care of your carry-on luggage and camera equipment, as the rest of your luggage will be transported by La Selva staff. The manager will be waiting to welcome you with a refreshing juice, snacks, and a brief session with general information about your visit to La Selva. One of our naturalist guides will provide you with all the basic information about the rainforest, the Amazon, and how La Selva works. This way, you can begin your activities with some prior knowledge of the incredible place you have just arrived at.

At 5:00 pm, you will walk along the Matapalo Trail, named after the famous strangler fig tree, one of the many trees you will encounter on this short hike. You will also see amazing mahogany trees over 400 years old while your guides share their knowledge of the local flora and fauna. At this time of day, there is plenty of natural light, and both diurnal and nocturnal animals are beginning their daily transition activities.

At 7:00 pm, you will find snacks and delicious cocktails prepared by our talented bartender at the bar. In addition, feel free to help yourself to unlimited tea and coffee.

At 7:30 pm, dinner will be served. Find your seat and get comfortable while our wait staff serves you each course from our carefully crafted menu.

Activities

At 6:00 a.m., there will be a wake-up call, followed by breakfast at 6:30 a.m.

At 7:00 a.m., you will visit the Observation Tower/Tucaneta or Mandi Forest. After a 20-minute walk, the observation tower will come into view. This incredible structure will allow you to stand 120 feet above the forest. Your naturalist and native guides will help you spot the colorful birds of the Amazon, and perhaps even some primates. On the way back from the tower, there is the option of taking the Tucaneta Trail where your Native Guide can show you some of the medicinal plants that are still used today, while your Naturalist Guide will provide you with interesting information about the ecology and natural history of the Amazon. There is also the option of visiting the beautiful Mandi Cocha lagoon. A walk of approximately 1 hour takes you to the lagoon where you will find an Igapó forest, a forest temporarily flooded by water. Here you can observe different species of birds and even giant otters.

Lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.

At 4:30 pm, there will be a tour along the Charapa Trail, which lasts approximately one hour, starting at the lodge and ending at the edge of the lagoon. It is a large loop where you can observe different mammals, monkeys, and birds that come to the lagoon at this time of year in search of food. It is also perfect for watching the magnificent Amazonian sunset from the canoe.

At 6:40 pm, the Night Canoe Tour will take place. With the help of a flashlight, your guides will take you around the lagoon by canoe, searching for nocturnal wildlife. This is also a great opportunity to stargaze!

Finally, dinner will be served at 7:30 pm.

Activities

At 6:00 a.m., there will be a wake-up call, followed by breakfast at 6:30 a.m.

At 7:00 a.m., you will visit the parrots on the clay wall and Mandi Wasi. Today you will return to the Napo River and take a motorized canoe ride to the clay licks, one of the most fascinating displays in the wild. Hundreds of parrots and parakeets gather here to eat the mineral-rich soil, an important part of their diet. Binoculars are essential to truly capture the moment. Afterwards, we will take you to experience our Cultural Activity. An Amazonian Kichwa woman will welcome you to her community center to share the Kichwa way of life in the Amazon. This is special because it is a part of the Amazon that is not found on maps and provides a unique opportunity to truly learn more about the people of the Amazon.

Lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.

At 4:30 pm, we will visit Garzacocha Lagoon and Ceiba Trail. This is one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Here there are many opportunities to see monkeys and birds, and sometimes families of squirrel monkeys join capuchin monkeys in search of food. The tremendous calls of howler monkeys can be heard in the afternoon, and the world's smallest monkey, the pygmy marmoset, can also be seen here. Many birds such as hoatzins, toucans, and macaws can also be seen flying around the area.

At 6:30 pm, there will be a Night Walk. On a night walk, we give you the opportunity to enjoy the creatures and sounds of the Amazon rainforest at night. Sometimes we can see amazing things during this activity. Be sure to bring a flashlight for this fantastic experience.

At 7:15 pm, there will be a Departure Briefing, where our manager will provide you with all the necessary information about the departure procedure for the following morning.

Finally, dinner will be served at 7:30 pm.

At 6:00 a.m., we will depart for Coca, as discussed during the briefing the night before. You will have an early wake-up call, breakfast, and departure from the lodge. The lodge staff will assist you with your checked luggage, and the motorized canoe trip will head upriver back to Coca, where our representatives will take you to the airport to assist you with your luggage and boarding passes.

During your free time between activities, you can go fishing, use our kayaks and boats, enjoy a massage at our spa, or simply relax in your room and take a nap.
