Pujilí – Most of the inhabitants of Pujilí are indigenous, and the best time to see native customs and clothing is on market days: Wednesdays and Sundays. Men and women from neighboring villages bring their products to the market to sell. The market is more than just a place to buy and sell; it is also an important social activity, and locals dress up and spend a good amount of time socializing. Pujilí is known for its clay pottery and ceramics, which are also sold at the market.
Saquisilí Market – Every Thursday, this open-air market becomes a place filled with products and animals. Merchants from nearby villages gather to offer their products, but also their animals, llamas, sheep, and cows. The local market is an authentic place where you can also see its inhabitants, mainly indigenous people.
Tigua is a community composed mainly of indigenous people. It is the birthplace of indigenous artists, who through their crafts represent rural life and community customs; it is a vivid portrait of their world nestled in the picturesque valleys and moors of the Andes. The paintings stand out for being made from tanned sheep or lamb skin and painted with acrylics. The masks are made of wood and painted with striking colors that portray animals from the Andean and Amazonian worldviews, such as condors, hummingbirds, monkeys, and bears. Popular characters from festivals are also portrayed, such as the Diablo Huma, Danzante de Pujilí, clowns, and skulls.
The Quilotoa volcanic lagoon is located at 3,900 meters above sea level. This is one of the most beautiful and spectacular sites in Ecuador, notable for its natural surroundings that convey tranquility and for its green and turquoise waters located within an extinct volcanic crater. It is possible to descend to the shore of the lagoon to admire its waters up close. This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquility of nature. Inside the lagoon, it is possible to go kayaking (additional cost). This activity and the nature reserve are managed by the indigenous communities. The ascent from the lagoon is excellent exercise, but physically demanding; alternatively, the community provides mules for travelers who require assistance to rent this service.
Lunch is scheduled at a local restaurant, run by the community.
At the end of the tour, passengers will be transferred to their scheduled accommodation for dinner and rest.
Breakfast at the accommodation.
The Don Bosco woodworking workshop is a community development project created by the Italian missionary group "Mato Grosso" that provides local youth with skills in wood carving, sculpting, and fine furniture making. This excellent project has helped hundreds of young people by offering them an alternative to migrating to larger cities.
At the end of the tour, passengers will be transferred to their hotel in the city of Quito.
