The city of Otavalo has been declared the "intercultural capital of Ecuador" because it is a city with enormous potential in several aspects, possessing scenic charm, cultural richness, history, and commercial development. This town is mainly known for its colorful indigenous market, the largest in Latin America.
The Peguche waterfall has always been a sacred place for the Otavalo people and surrounding villages. Some indigenous purification rituals are performed here with its crystal clear waters. To get there
The city of Cotacachi is located on the slopes of the volcano of the same name, where its inhabitants are engaged in the leather industry (manufacturing and marketing). It has dozens of shops offering handicrafts, clothing, and shoes made from the finest quality leather. Lunch is scheduled in the city.
Cuicocha is a lake located in a volcanic caldera at the foot of the Cotacachi volcano in the western Ecuadorian Andes and forms part of the Cotacachi-Cayapas Ecological Reserve. Within the Cuicocha lagoon, there are four lava domes that form two small islands covered with forest: the smaller one is called Yerovi, and the larger one is called Teodoro Wolf, in honor of the German scholar and discoverer. We will then head to our accommodation to rest at Hacienda Pinsaquí.
We begin our day at the majestic Hacienda Pinsaquí with a delicious breakfast. The excursion starts at 2,520 meters above sea level, in the southern part of the property, where the horses are prepared and safety equipment is provided. Our route heads south through the Illumán ravine, running parallel to the Pan-American Highway. We will arrive at the Modesto Larrea school, named in honor of the patriarch of the second generation who cared for this historic house. From here, we will see the small hill Chaupiloma and continue our journey past the charming church of Carabuela and the community stadium. Finally, we will return to the property, completing an experience full of exploration and discovery.
At the end of the tour, we will transfer you to your hotel in Quito.
